The Assault Weapons and Rifles Law | Penal Code 30600 PC
California law regarding assault weapons and BMG rifles prohibits:
The manufacturing, sale, gifting, lending, and/or possession of any of the aforementioned weapons.
You may legally possess an assault weapon or .50 BMG rifle if:
You hold a valid permit specifically allowing the possession of an assault weapon (as opposed to a concealed firearm permit, which does not cover assault weapons), among other requirements.
Possession of a .50 BMG rifle is a misdemeanor offense, and you may also face a sentence of:
- Up to one year in a county jail and
- A fine of up to $1,000.
If you find yourself in a situation where, during a search without a warrant, an unregistered weapon is found, your civil rights may have been violated.
